Privacy Policy
Kaizen Grow (“Kaizen Grow”, “Kaizen”, “we”, “us”) is a habit app run by a small independent developer in the United States. This policy explains what Kaizen collects, where it goes, and what you can do about it. Questions or requests: hello@kaizengrow.app.
The short version
- Your goals, check-ins, plans, to-dos, journal and tree are stored on your iPhone. We don’t have a copy and can’t see them.
- The Kaizen iPhone app has no ads, no analytics, no tracking and no account servers today. It does not send your Kaizen data to us.
- A few iPhone features you choose to use (Dictate, reminders, iCloud Backup) involve Apple, under Apple’s privacy policy.
- We don’t sell or share your personal information, and we don’t use your content to train AI models.
- You can export everything or delete everything from Me in the app, at any time.
1. What Kaizen stores on your iPhone
Kaizen saves what you put in it inside the app’s private storage on your iPhone: goals and check-ins, day plans, to-dos, journal entries and notes, quote ratings, your tree and its visitors, your first name, an optional profile photo, and reminder settings.
Backup copies. To protect against data loss, Kaizen keeps a few backup copies of the same data inside the app on your iPhone: up to three daily copies, up to three copies of any save that was damaged (so it can be repaired), and one copy in the app’s own files that is used to restore your data if the iPhone ever clears it. When you export or share something, iOS creates a temporary file for the share sheet. These copies never leave your iPhone through Kaizen. If iCloud Backup or a computer backup is turned on for your iPhone, Apple includes the app’s storage in that backup, under your own Apple account. Deleting your data in Kaizen deletes these copies, the temporary files, your reminder settings and any scheduled reminders too.
Your data stays on your iPhone until you delete it in the app or delete the app. iOS protects it with your iPhone’s encryption.
2. iPhone features that involve Apple
- Dictate uses Apple’s speech recognition to turn what you say into text. Depending on your iPhone and settings, Apple may process the audio on the device or on Apple’s servers. Kaizen keeps only the text you save, never a recording. Kaizen asks for microphone and speech-recognition permission the first time, and you can turn it off in iPhone Settings.
- Reminders are notifications your iPhone schedules itself. Their text (for example a to-do’s name) is not sent to us.
- Profile photo. If you take or pick a profile photo, Kaizen asks for camera or photo access first and saves the photo on your iPhone only.
- Purchases. If Kaizen offers a subscription, Apple handles the payment. We receive only whether your subscription is active, never your payment details.
3. Accounts and sync (not available yet)
Kaizen does not have online accounts yet. The account screen in the app says so, and nothing you type there is sent anywhere. When accounts launch, they will be optional. Before anything leaves your iPhone, we will update this policy and the Subprocessors page to say exactly what is stored, where, and for how long, and you will have to agree to it in the app.
4. When you contact us
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to answer you and to keep a record of what was agreed.
We only send marketing emails to people who opt in. Every one has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing never affects anything else.
5. Our website
Kaizen’s website (kaizengrow.app) is a few plain pages. It has no forms, sets no cookies and runs no analytics or ads. It is hosted on GitHub Pages (GitHub, Inc.), which, like any web host, processes basic technical information such as your IP address and browser to deliver the pages and keep them secure. See GitHub’s privacy statement.
6. Who processes data for us
The service providers involved, and exactly when, are listed on our Subprocessors page. They may only use data to provide their service.
7. How long we keep it
- Data in the app: on your iPhone until you delete it in the app (Me → Delete my data) or delete the app. We never hold a copy.
- Emails you send us: only as long as needed to answer them and keep a record of what was agreed, and no longer than three years.
- Website: we don’t collect or keep any data from visits. The host’s technical logs are kept as described in GitHub’s privacy statement.
8. Your choices and rights
- Export: Me → Export my data saves a file with everything Kaizen has stored on your iPhone. You decide where it goes.
- Restore: Me → Restore from a backup brings back a file you exported.
- Delete: Me → Delete my data erases everything Kaizen stored on your iPhone, including its backup copies. Deleting the app does the same.
- Ask us: email hello@kaizengrow.app to access, correct, delete or get a copy of any personal information we hold about you, or to object to how we use it. We answer within 30 days (45 days where California law allows). We won’t treat you differently for using these rights.
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK, California or another US state with a privacy law) you have these rights by law, and you can complain to your local data-protection authority. Where the GDPR applies, we rely on our contract with you to provide the features you use, on your consent for marketing email, and on our legitimate interest in answering messages and keeping Kaizen secure.
We do not sell or “share” personal information as California law defines those words, we do not use it for targeted advertising, and we do not use it to profile you.
9. Children
Kaizen is meant for people 13 and older and is not directed to children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you think a child under 13 has sent us information, email us and we will delete it.
10. Security
Because your Kaizen data stays on your iPhone, the most important protection is your iPhone’s passcode and encryption. For anything we do hold (such as emails), we limit access and use reputable providers. No system is perfectly secure, so we can’t promise that information will never be accessed without permission. If a breach affects your personal information, we will tell you as the law requires.
11. International users
Kaizen is run from the United States. If you contact us from another country, your message is handled in the United States and by our email provider. Where the law requires it, transfers are covered by safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
12. Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above. Before a material change applies to you (for example the launch of accounts), we will tell you in the app and, where the law requires, ask for your agreement.
